Diploma Course

ONE YEAR ACTING DIPLOMA COURSE

Caravanserai Productions and Acting Studio are pleased to offer their one year diploma course in conjunction with Trinity Guildhall.

The course is ideal for young people in their gap year who would be interested in developing a future in acting and for older people who would like to gain a thorough appreciation for what it means to train as an actor, who wish to dramatically improve their skills under the guidance of top experts in acting, movement, improvisation and voice.

The course prepares students for the accredited Trinity Guildhall ATCL examination in July, and a whole lot more!

It is equivalent to a foundation in Acting at one of the main conservatoire drama schools here in the UK. We fully expect many of the students to go on to train at one of those drama schools or to continue with us, opting for the studio training approach.

In the Methodological-based training that we offer at the Caravanserai, the acting class is of central importance. Students learn a rigorous process for opening up emotionally, learning to trust their impulses and for analysing a script thoroughly. They learn to deconstruct characters, to discover the core motivations and to develop clear character thought processes. They also take part in intensive movement and voice classes in order to gain a degree of mastery of their instrument from a technical perspective, and improvisation classes to expand and test the limits of their imagination and spontaneity. Finally, the analysis class introduces them to the history of drama from the Greeks to the present day, and most of the major philosophical and technical influences on the art form. From the second term they additionally take part in a screen acting class once a week.

Students take part in a minimum of 16 hours of classes each week and need to make themselves available for rehearsals outside of normal studio hours. They are also encouraged to see as much theatre and film as possible. Students constantly rehearse scenes and monologues, and appear in a full length production before finishing the course: In July 2010, MACBETH, at the Tristan Bates Theatre (see 'Latest News' for full information). We are also delighted that our students achieved 100% success-rate in passing the ATCL examination this year.

All of the teachers teach or have taught at the major UK drama schools, some renowned in their fields. Most continue to work professionally.

The fee for each term: £1600. The fee for the entire year: £4800 (+ £136 fee for taking the exam).

The application deadline for 2010/2011 is 31st July 2010.
